DR:
That link does not work!

The link worked ok for me, but I was kind of surprised to find this at the end of it…
…the good news is that “if you’re fat, it’s not your fault.” Basically, the advice we hear to eat less and exercise more is meaningless.
You DID link to the right place, didn’t you? Not quite the point of view I’m used to seeing here!

Yeah, I wasn’t very impressed with Dr. Sears on that point.
Make all the fatties feel like they are victims and their obesity isn’t their fault.
Who eats the Omega 6s and processed foods that results in the production of AA and inflammation and the related obesity?
Even if Dr. Sears is 100% correct, there isn’t an Arachidonic Acid Boogey man running around forcing us to eat the foods that causes the AA cascade.
We are the ones opening our pie-holes and shoving in the pie.
With that being said, it is a very interesting theory that Sears presents.
Very much against the commonly held belief that obesity is ALL about calories in & calories out.

Anyone else having a problem with the link???
I tried it again from a few different computers and browsers and it worked fine.

Link worked fine for me. So I read elsewhere that he says that insulin increases the production (or demand) for Arachidonic Acid. Thus, low carb meals again might reduce the negative effects of this fatty acid?

Yep, insulin rears it’s head again.
Quel surprise

Here is a study which shows an association between Arachidonic Acid and:
- Metabolic Syndrome,
- Abdominal obesity,
- Hypertriglyceridaemia,
- Elevated fasting glucose, and
- High blood pressure.

Very interesting, thanks for the link. So it seems that diets high in Omega 6, and insulin are what we need to avoid. Interestingly, paleo diets are low in both of these – who would have thought.

“Toxic” is a very trendy and effective marketing gimmick right now. “Detox,” “detoxification,” etc. Replaces glycemic index and high insulin levels. I give “toxic” another 18 months, then on to the next gimmick.
Just wish I knew what the next successful catch phrase will be. Maybe major publishers, like the fashion industry, get together and decide a 6-12 months in advance so they can coordinate production and marketing.
And it’s almost always good marketing to absolve someone of responsibility for their problems. It makes them feel better about themselves immediately, if only temporarily.
