Super Scary Obesity Statistics

  • Until 1980, fewer than one in ten people were obese.
  • In 2010, 35% of Americans were classified as obese.

And it’s not just the US of A.

  • In 19 of the 34 OECD countries, the majority of the population is now overweight or obese.
  • OECD projections suggest that more than two out of three people will be overweight or obese in some OECD countries by 2020.

Maybe it’s time to do something about this???

  1. Are those obesity statistics based on BMI? Because I’m sure it didn’t help when the BMI set points were changed in the 90s and millions became overweight or obese overnight.

  2. From my experiance I can tell you that you can see the same development in Germany as well. When I was a kid there were 1-2 guys in every class who were fat (not just a bit overweight). If I look at the kids today (and I live nearby a school) almost 25-30% are already, what one calls fat (there are 15 years in between my time and today)…it’s the same when you go out at the streets and just look at the people who walk around there…really concerning…

  3. Wow this is crazy! Never knew obesity was getting to this level. For some it may not be by choice, but at least try to be healthy people!! Its for you’re own good!

  4. Um, “fewer than one in ten people” would be less than 10%. It doesn’t look like that USA line ever goes below 10%.
